Robbie Scoops Award (16 Apr 2005)

London Towers' Head Coach Robbie Peers has won the BBL Coach of the Month award for March after he led the team on seven straight wins in the month, helping them to a third placed finish in the BBL Championship.

After not dropping a single game in March they have established themselves as the form team entering into the post season Playoffs, which begin for the Towers on Saturday when they host Scottish Phoenix Honda Record Rocks.

Two results in particular stand out from that month, Towers beat both of the teams that finished above them in the table. First of all an 85-99 victory on the road against TCS Chester Jets, after opening the game 8-0 they never trailed. They followed that up a week later by beating Springfield Honda Newcastle Eagles 71-64 at Crystal Palace.

They also beat their Playoff opponents the Rocks towards the end of March, the 80-72 win came courtesy of restricting the Rocks to just eleven points in the third period and saw two former Rocks players lead the scoring in Niki Arinze and Jerry Williams.

Peers wins the award for the first time this season, with 41% of the vote, and fought off competition from Fab Flournoy of the Eagles and Milton Keynes Lions' play caller Nigel Lloyd.

Towers Show Intentions with High Profile Signings (23 Sep 2004)

London Towers are delighted to release some of the first names on their 2004/05 roster. In their hunt for silverware this season Towers have looked towards experienced and successful players with a history in the BBL.

Lynard Stewart is the first big name to be announced. The 6’ 8” 28 year old American had starred for the Westfield Sharks Sheffield for the last 3 seasons and is a proven player of high calibre in this league. Last season he averaged 15.29 points per game and 8.94 rebounds. He was also the MVP in the Sharks BBL Cup victory. Lynard is well travelled having played in the Czech Republic and Israel since leaving Temple University .

Sullivan Phillips is another man whose pedigree is well known to the BBL. The Bermuda native joins Towers after spending two years here playing for Birmingham Bullets in 2002/03 and winning a Championship medal with Brighton Bears last season where he averaged 7.38 points per game and 4.63 rebounds as well as being second in assists.

Robbie Peers is also pleased to have re-signed Rod Brown for a second year at the Towers. He played an important role last season as he led the team in assists and was second in three point shooting. These assets coupled with Brown’s experience are likely to be very important to Towers this time out. The 26-year-old Texan point guard has spent 4 years in London in total having previously been with the London Leopards in the BBL.

Three British players, all familiar to Towers, have been recruited so far alongside Stewart, Phillips and Brown. Steve Ogunjimi was a Tower between 1996 -1998, during which time he was a Play-Off and BBL Trophy winner. Steve has also played for the London Leopards and Springfield Honda Newcastle Eagles in the BBL. Michael Bishop played for Towers last season making a few appearances off the bench and Sam Betts is a young 6’ 2” former Towers Junior stepping up to this level for the first time.

Peers said of his new players, “I have tried to sign proven players in this league who have performed in the past, so we know we are not gambling”.

Robbie Fines Rico & Jerry (20 Sep 2004)

Towers Head Coach, Robbie Peers, tonight issued the following statement: "Rico Alderson has been fined five times the normal disciplinary procedure and suspended for one game of our tour to Ireland. Jerry Williams has been fined as per normal team rules and suspended for one game of the tour. Tower's preparation for the forthcoming season is the real loser here, not either individual. Winning is a rare commodity. Winning even bigger is even rarer. Both players are under no illusions of what standards are required."
